County museums present exhibits and programs that focus on the natural and cultural history of this area. There are two county museums: The Calvert Marine Museum in Solomons, Maryland and the Chesapeake Beach Railway Museum in Chesapeake Beach.
Calvert Marine Museum explores the rich maritime heritage and diversity of life in the Chesapeake Bay and surrounding waterways. It is also the home of the State Paleontology Collections and Research Center, a designation that reflects the extensive fossil collection and in-depth work done in that field. The Drum Point Lighthouse, iconic workboats, live otters and seahorses, public river cruises, and a giant Megalodon all make visiting this site a must.
Chesapeake Beach Railway Museum tells the story of the Chesapeake Beach Railway and Amusement Park in the early 20th century. The building is the original railway station and is the only surviving station from the railway line, listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
