Youth Wrestling

Information on the 2019-20 Youth Wrestling Program for children ages 4 to 14 or currently in 8th grade is included in Parks and Recreation Fall/Holiday Program brochure on Page 40.

Wrestling practices are from Mid-November through the second week of March with matches held mostly on Saturdays starting in January through March. CCPR is a member of the Southern Maryland Youth Wrestling League (SMYWL) as well as the Anne Arundel Youth Wrestling League. Matches are held in Calvert, Charles, Prince Georges, St. Mary's and Anne Arundel Counties. All participants must possess a 2019-20 USA Wrestling Card. Go to The Mat website to register. The fee for a Folk-style card to wrestle in Maryland is $25.00. This provides additional insurance to the participant and is mandatory for all wrestlers before they can participate in matches. Additional fees (uniforms, tournaments, additional league, shoes and headgear) may be required. Coaches will update parents on additional costs at their first meeting.

CCPR sponsors the South/Central Wrestling Club. They practice at Patuxent High School. Practice nights vary but are traditionally held two to three nights a week and are usually divided based on ages, weights and/or experience levels. Practice times are typically from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.  The Northern/Central part of the county is served by Rampage Wrestling Club.  They are separate from CCPR but still participate in the SMYWL.  For information regarding Rampage Wrestling, you can go to:  Rampage Wrestling's practices are held at St. Nicholas Lutheran Church in Huntingtown.

The cost for CCPR Youth Wrestling is $80.00 per child, $75.00 for the second family member (see additional fees above). Registration starts July 26 and is taken through December 31 or sooner if clubs fill.  Rampage Wrestling's fees are $125.00 for recreational wrestlers.  Fees above and beyond that of CCPR's fees ($80.00) are used to offset use of their facility rental.
