Permit Application Processing Fee
Starting Nov. 3, 2025, any/all submission or rerouting of residential electrical and plumbing permits will require a $25.00 application processing fee. Any/all submission or rerouting of commercial permits, including trade permits will require a $100.00 application processing fee. These fees were approved as part of the Calvert County FY2026 budget.
Overview
The Calvert County Plumbing Board examines the qualifications and capabilities of all persons who are engaged or desire to engage in the business of plumber as defined in the Calvert County Code. The board also adopts regulations on the classes of licenses, sets fees, administers the examination of applicants, and regulates the business of plumbers in Calvert County.
Composition
The Board is a three-member board appointed by the governor with advice and consent by state legislators. All members are master plumbers who have resided and been engaged in the business of plumber in Calvert County for a minimum period of three years preceding their appointment.
Terms
Board members serve two-year terms.
Any member of the Board can be removed for incompetence or improper conduct upon satisfactory presentation of evidence of that condition.
Members of the Board shall take and subscribe the oath required by other state officers. Board shall elect a president, vice president, and secretary-treasurer, and adopt whatever regulations and bylaws it deems expedient for the transaction of board business.

Overview
Before engaging in the business of plumbing in Calvert County, or representing that the individual is authorized to engage in that business, an individual shall hold a current license issued by the board.
Expiration
All plumbing and gas licenses expire on May 31 every two years. Renewal applications are usually mailed to the licensee's last known address six to eight weeks prior to the expiration of the license. The licensee is responsible for submitting a renewal application and all requested supporting documentation.
Written change of address notifications are very important in the renewal process.
License Types
The following plumbing contractor's licenses can be issued by Calvert County:
Master Plumber
- Complete 3,700 hours of training under the direction and control of a licensed master plumber
- Hold a journey license for at least two years
- Pass a comprehensive written examination
Journeyman Plumber
- Complete 32 hours of training in backflow prevention device testing
- Complete 7,500 hours of training under the control and direction of a licensed master plumber
- Hold an apprentice license for at least four years
- Pass a comprehensive written examination
Master Gas Fitter
- Complete 3,700 hours of training under the direction and control of a licensed master plumber
- Hold a journey license for at least two years
- Pass a comprehensive written examination
Journeyman Gas Fitter
- Complete 32 hours of training in backflow prevention device testing
- Complete 7,500 hours of training under the control and direction of a licensed master plumber
- Hold an apprentice license for at least four years
- Pass a comprehensive written examination
