The Bike Patrol Team was established in 1997 and currently has 14 volunteer members. This is a part time assignment and the team is comprised of members from all bureaus within the agency.
Each member of the team is required to attend a week long training course. The instructors teach the students specific riding techniques to enhance their law enforcement bike skills. The training challenges their physical stamina.
The Bike Patrol Team is used during large-scale events such as the Tiki Bar Opening and 4th of July events. The team is also used to supplement Patrol deputies by providing high visibility patrols at shopping centers throughout the county.
The Bike Patrol Team is also very active in bicycle safety education. The team instructs and advocates bike safety, encouraging all riders to wear safety helmets and teaching riders to check their bikes for safety.
