The department also serves as the liaison between county, state and federal Homeland Security teams. We work in conjunction with the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office, Maryland State Police and Natural Resources Police in the enforcement of federal, state and local laws.

Mission Statement

Public Safety’s mission is to proactively ensure the safety of the county residents and visitors to the county by planning, training, equipping and preparing staff to mitigate emergency situations that require 9-1-1 calls, Emergency Operations Center activations, Fire / Rescue / EMS and law enforcement responses, false alarms and hazardous releases. We are dedicated to the efficient management of daily calls requiring emergency responders; the proactive mitigation of man-made, technological and/or natural disasters; the effective response to fire, rescue and emergency medical service needs within the county; the assertive reduction of the number of false alarm dispatches; providing humane sheltering of animals that have been surrendered by owner or stray animals that have been found; and providing efficient management of daily calls requiring response and investigation by our Animal Control Officers.
