Why Are Gas Prices Higher in Calvert?

Gas prices are determined by a variety of factors, many of which are outside the control of local government. Key influences include:

Limited Fuel Distribution and Competition

Calvert County has fewer fuel distributors and retail gas stations than surrounding areas. This limits competition and can lead to higher prices at the pump.

Higher Transportation Costs

Fuel must be trucked into Calvert County from regional terminals, often over longer distances than required for neighboring counties. These additional logistics costs are passed on to consumers.

Zone Pricing

Oil companies divide regions into “pricing zones” and charge different wholesale rates based on local competition. Calvert is often placed in a higher-cost zone.
